    Hello,

Here is an overview of my infrastructure:

    • Approx 60 215 APs (all on 6.4.2.6-4.1.3.0_54915)
    • All are managed by AirWave (8.2.1.1)
    • One group as been created (Airwave)
    • The group has 14 folders and thus 14 VCs

I am looking to update all 60 IAPs via the Groups - Firmware section on AirWave to version 6.5.3.2-6.5.3.2_60886.

I would want to test this out on one site/VC first to make sure there are no ill effects and then to do a staggered, controlled rollout across the remaining sites/VCs but I can't see the option to do this on the Firmware page.

My question is that is it possible to upgrade on a per-VC basis or do I have to bite the bullet and do all sites at the same time?

    Cheers,

    Indy

What I do most often is (since i don't like to mix different firmware releases in one group)

    duplicate an existig group,

then move the AP cluster I'd like to update

enforce firmware update via group settings

But you could also go to AP/Devices List -> the folder with APs you'd like to update and select the "upgrade firmware for selected devices" options (see screenshot below)

    Hi Eddy,

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try the duplicate group option first.

That will probably be a good thing to have in place going forwards anyway as a test bed for anything else I am thinking of doing.

    Cheers,
    Indy

    Hello Eddy,

Unfortuantely I had no sucess with that, I got an error message that the firmware upgrade is not possible using the AP/Devices method, I have attached a screenshot showing it.

Have you encoutnered this message yourself and if so, how were you able to get past it?

    Cheers,

    Indy

    Hi,
that problem maybe is caused by some options in your airwve configuration.
First under AMP General -> General -> Firmware Upgrade/Reboot Options.

    Are these two options allowed?grafik.png

If not, then you should check the management level of the APs.

If they in Read Only mode like in the screenshot,

    grafik.png

then you won't be able update them, without changing the management level to read/write mode.
If the configuration status is good, then you sould be able change that level without risking config loss and try to start the update again.

Should this still not work, maybe the airwave itself causes the problem since it's an older version. That way or another I would suggest you to open a TAC case for further troubleshooting. That could be an issue I personally never saw before.

    Best wishes

    Eddy
