I was looking at some documentation and I read that Airwave should be upgraded from 7.4 to 7.7 then from 7.7 to 8.0 . Can someone confirm if this is OK.

Victor's link doesn't work for me.
AirWave upgrades are tested to allow skipping 1 major release (skipping further than that may incur some database schema errors).
From 7.4.8, you'll have to upgrade 2 times to get to the current version
7.4.8 -> 7.6.6 (skips 7.5) -> 188.8.131.52 (skips 7.7)
When pursuing this upgrade path, be sure to grab a backup from the initial 7.4.8 AMP (backups maintained in /var/airwave-backup, or from the UI: System -> Backups page). Since you're upgrading from such an old version, it's also good practice to compare the hardware to current sizing metric by checking the sizing guide. Each release sees addition of features, some of which take up additional resources.
