    Hi.

Is it possible to conduct a site survey using access points and controller without AirWave?

I want to measure real (not estimated) signal levels in production environment and put it on floor plan.

Yes, you'd typically use something like airmagnet or ekahau survey software.  Those are fairly pricey though.

Yes. You could do it manually or use a tool like AirMagnet or Ekahau.

What about free tools or any way to do it directly from controller?

Can Visual RF Planner do that?

Visual RF Plan is predictive. There are no accurate free tools.

If you have RF background, you can do it without tools.

    OK. Thanks.

You can also consider getting an IAP and using spectrum analysis.

For any survey tool, you need a way to load floor plans, a way to collect different SNRs, and have those combined, interpolated, and represeted in a graphical way (ala Heatmaps), and needs to be easy to setup and run. An IAP with Spectrum gives you decent point-survey tools, but does nothing for floor plans and visualization.

If you are using a mac, I cannot recomment highly enough Netspot (http://www.netspotapp.com/). it's $150 for the pro, is SUPER easy, makes good graphs, etc. So long as you don't need the tools and capabilities of Fluke/AirMagnet, this is a perfect tool IMHO and I use it often.
