USB Modem Support - AT&T USBConnect 900

Hey,
Anyone out there got this little blue modem to work yet? AT&T prepaid USBConnect 900...

RAP-70 current env vars are...

usb_type=2
usb_dev=0x12d11446
usb_dial=ATDT*99***1#
remote_ap=1
priority_ethernet=100
priority_cellular=110

~ # cat /tmp/usb_signal
USB Signal Strength : not supported/available

~ # cat /tmp/pppd.log
/usr/sbin/pppd: This system lacks kernel support for PPP. This could be because
the PPP kernel module could not be loaded, or because PPP was not
included in the kernel configuration. If PPP was included as a
module, try `/sbin/modprobe -v ppp'. If that fails, check that
ppp.o exists in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/net.
See README.linux file in the ppp distribution for more details.

I figure that I'm forgetting something. This is the first i've tried to get a non supported usb modem working. Controller is 650 running aos 6.1.2.0. Rap works fine on the wire. If anyone can lend a hand I'd be happy to do a webex.

Thanks.

Re: USB Modem Support - AT&T USBConnect 900

As i've continued to look into this i've changed a few things with no success. My mac initially reported the device id as 1446 as stated, however that appears to be the mass storage device, once the installation package completes on osx the device id is listed as 14ac, so i've updated my env vars as follows based on a few other posts...

provision-ap ap-name RAP70
#also using a RAP5WN with same results, i test more on the 70 since the console is easier to reach.
provision-ap ap-group RAPs
provision-ap server-name aruba.*.net
provision-ap master aruba.*.net
provision-ap ikepsk *
provision-ap pap-user *
provision-ap pap-passwd *
provision-ap no usb-dev
provision-ap no usb-dial
provision-ap no usb-tty
provision-ap usb-dev 0x12d11446
provision-ap usb-modeswitch "-v 12d1 -p 1446 -V 12d1 -P 14ac -M 55534243123456780000000000000011060000000000000000000000000000"
#also tried "-v 12d1 -p 1446 -V 12d1 -P 14ac" with no -M
provision-ap usb-init "AT+CGDCONT=1,'IP','wap.cingular'"
#also tried AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","ISP.CINGULAR"
provision-ap usb-dial ATD*99#
#also tried ATDT*99***1#
provision-ap usb-user "internet"
provision-ap usb-passwd "internet"
#with or without the usb-user/passwd
provision-ap usb-type option
provision-ap link-priority-ethernet 100
provision-ap link-priority-cellular 125
provision-ap remote-ap
provision-ap reprovision ip-addr 10.101.0.37

The good news is that the little blue light on the modem blinks now, but that's about it. Still same results on cat /tmp usb_signal and the pppd.log says no kernel support still.

So that's what i have for my 2 or 3 hours this evening. I made a light blink. Ha. At least it's something. Any help is appreciated.

a little more progress

current env vars:

provision-ap usb-dev 0x12d114ac
provision-ap usb-type option
provision-ap usb-init AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”isp.cingular” ^^verified by at&t^^
provision-ap usb-dial ATDT*99***1# ^^verified by at&t^^
provision-ap usb-tty ttyUSB0 ^^guessing^^

results:

(650) (config-if)#show ap debug usb ap-name RAP70

USB Information
---------------
Parameter Value
--------- -----
+CSQ 15,99
HUAWEI
Product HUAWEI
Serial Number
Driver option
Vendor ID 12d1
Product ID 14ac
Model E1815
Revision 11.128.03.11.457
IMEI 34
USB Uplink RSSI(in dBm) -83

(650) (config-if)#

So now I'm getting rssi which is nice, but it's still not able to connect via the usb card. I'm going through the 4 tty ports now. When i used tty1 i didn't get any more rssi.

Success!

I reprovisioned my rap5 with the same env vars i was using on the 70 and had success...

provision-ap ap-name Jim-RAP5
provision-ap ap-group RAPs
provision-ap server-name aruba.*.net
provision-ap master aruba.*.net
provision-ap ikepsk *
provision-ap pap-user *
provision-ap pap-passwd *
provision-ap usb-dev 0x12d114ac
provision-ap usb-type option
provision-ap usb-init AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”isp.cingular”
provision-ap usb-dial ATDT*99***1#
provision-ap usb-tty ttyUSB0
provision-ap link-priority-ethernet 100
provision-ap link-priority-cellular 125
provision-ap remote-ap
provision-ap reprovision ip-addr X

not sure why the 70 doesn't work and the rap5 does. I never was able to see anything regarding ppp in the 70, and the modem call would bomb out. Any propeller heads know why?

Re: USB Modem Support - AT&T USBConnect 900

Please open a case regarding that PPP if you want it looked at for the AP70.
