    Hello,

Has anyone setup their controller to block Pokémon Go?

I looked up the aruba defined apps and don't yet see it in the listing so is there another way at this point?

    Thank you

Pokemon Go is too new to be identified. We can ask, however.

The big question is, do you suspect that Pokemon Go consuming alot of your bandwidth? Users can just use cellular data to play if you block it...

Thanks for the reply and for asking about it to be identified by Aruba.  Our school administrators are worried that kids will play the game @ school and want us to make sure it's block it on the school wifi.   So I wanted to check to see how/if we could do that to be able to answer them back :-)

    Thank you!

As stated, blocking anything on your network isn't going to do too much because most of the students will just turn on their cellular data and bypass your network.

But if you block the following URL through your firewall/content filter it should prevent network access to the game:

    pgorelease.nianticlabs.com

In my case, to start with, it would be good to know how many people are playing and where.  Any ideas on making that kind of report?

School is out for Summer. The administration wants to be proactive with making sure it's blocked on our school wifi (we realize if they are using cellular we can't control), but want to make sure it's blocked on the aruba wifi before students come back to school next month.

    Try this:

    netdestination pokemon-go
        name pgorelease.nianticlabs.com
    !
    ip access-list session deny_pokemon-go
        user alias pokemon-go any deny
    !

Add the session ACL to your user-role(s) and be sure your controller has DNS servers defined and name lookups enabled.

I want to know how many users use this app in AppRF (airwave), how much bandwith use it (Total and by user)... and reports by AP locations.

    :)

If you are blocking it, that would not be recorded.  If you are not blocking it, it should show up in Airwave under AppRF> Destinations> Detail:

Maybe if they are lucky enough, the school's big concrete walls will block LTE signal :)
