We purchased CP-VA-500 license and would like to know if 100GB disk space is good enough given that we only use this as a lab environment and only use 25 default enterprise licenses?

    Many thanks!

No. You have to follow the specs.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Thank you for your reply! May you please let me know how the 500GB disk space is being used for CA-VA-500?

ClearPass creates two partitions to allow for quick upgrades and roll back. Each partition is 250G and holds the application itself, logs, database, content etc.

    Thanks,
    Tim

    Thanks you again, Tim!

Since we only have very limited authentication activities on the CA-VA-500, for example, 100 per week, we are thinking 500GB for two partitions are too much. Do you happen to know the space requirement for the application itself?

Sorry, but I have to disagree with Tim.

For a lab setup 100GB is more than enough.

Offcourse be mindfull of cleanup intervals and keep those short.

And should you run out of space (you won't if traffic is light).. heck.. it's a labserver.. start again with 150GB.

    Sorry did not see "lab"

    Thanks,

    Thank you, Tim!

I assume you think 100GB is good enough as well.

Yes, for lab that should be fine. Sorry for the confusion.

Just this last week I was attempting to upgrade my CPPM from 6.0 to 6.5.2 and hit an error at 6.2 that prevented me from upgrading.  Issue was the CPPM  upgrade detected that there was not 2x250GB partitions to allow the install to take place.

I took a different path and installed a new datastore with the required space and then just installed a new 6.5.x copy on a new VM of that datastore.

My point is if you plan to keep the lab around awhile I would recommend doing it right to avoid issues later.  I use my lab all the time.

ascott: clearpass warns if you do not follow the recommended specs, but you should be able to bypass that warnign and install it regardless.

Please note that a direct upgrade from 6.0 to 6.5 is not a supported upgrade path.

In my case I was stepping the upgrade.  Got stuck going from 6.1 to 6.5.  Was easier just to rebuild a new VM sinse it was just a lab any way.

But to the point of this post there was not a way around the error of needing more disk space when trying to get to 6.2.

    Hi Koen,

Do you happen to know the difference between the production image and evaluation image of the ClearPass virtual machine? My vendor told me I either use evaluation image for 100GB space  or increase the disk space to 500GB to use production image.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm not 100% sure. It used to be that you could not upgrade an eval to a production version but this is no longer the case.

The install guide lists 80GB for CP-VA-EVAL and 500GB for CP-VA-500 which is where your vendors comments come from. I don't bother with the eval anymore and use the CP-EVAL-500 instead.. even on disk spaces smaller than 100GB.

I've yet to find an actual difference between the CP-VA-500 and CP-VA-EVAL.

Recent versions will complain about the disk space if you do not follow those specs which is probably the only difference between the versions?
