[SMTP: Invalid response code received from server (code: 535, response: Authentication failed)]

ClearPass Guest>Configuration>Receipts>Email receipt>Test Mail Settings

generates the above SMTP code 535 error

ClearPass Policy Manager>Administration>External Servers>Messaging Setup>Send Test Email

successfully sends a message

 

Any idea why one test works and the other fails?

Are you using the same email address to send to for both tests? I think the 535 error is remote server rejecting your mail. Might have to look there?

The solution was to stop using Gattaca Mail Server, and start using hMailServer.
