in the older versions of clearpass there was a post-auth setting for guest MAC caching. Now in 6.5 its gone. Whats the workaround?

There is a service template for MAC caching now.

I'm not sure what you are referring to.

My routine in the past was to setup the mac cache service template, then go to the guest web page and select the option "register the guests mac address with policy manager" That setting was under post-authentication. Its not there now

Those settings were not used for MAC caching (although I supposed some of
them would work). I would use the MAC-caching service template.

Does the mac caching service need to be ordered above or below the guest service?

Doesn't matter. It checks different attributes. I always put it above the
guest web-login service solely because the MAC-auth happens first.
