Mobile and Fixed broadband operators are increasingly looking at Wi-Fi as an alternate, cost effective access technology both to offload traffic and deliver value added mobility services. As the Wi-Fi deployments by operators continue to ramp up, it is important to consider some of the critical factors that would make Wi-Fi a truly effective part of the overall network solution.
These factors include (but certainly not limited to) integration with mobile core, seamless mobility / session continuity, RF reliability, access security, policy management and enforcement, HotSpot 2.0, HetNet architectures, role of FemtoCells, etc.
This Special Interest Group SP Forum is meant to foster an open exchange of ideas, thoughts and best practices on issues related to effective utilization of Wi-Fi and solution architectures for offload and managed services. This is an open forum and we invite participation from any one involved in deploying Wi-Fi services from the operator community as well as technology solution providers.
