    The Networking Consultant links the client’s business needs to network technology alternatives and develops network strategy, design architecture and plans that are independent of particular vendor products. The Networking Consultant analyzes the client’s network design architecture and requirements and develops network implementation architecture and plans. The practitioner provides consultation, proposals, pilots, proofs of concepts and technical qualification of third party vendors.
     
    Key Areas of Responsibility

    • Builds Knowledge Capital and provides thought leadership to clients and colleagues
    • Builds relationships with clients and other people
    • Interviews people to gather data and information
    • Maintains and develops awareness of technical/competitive activities relevant to area of expertise
    • Creates presentations
    • Makes formal/informal presentations (examples: service proposals, network data conclusions).
    • Writes documentation (examples: proposals, research papers, reports)
    • Helps identify knowledge transfer requirements for client and other persons

     

    • Links client business needs and requirements to product-independent networking technology alternatives
    • Evaluates client business documents (examples: business plan, organization charts, accounting reports)
    • Identifies requirements (examples: business issues, current business problems, goals, costs)
    • Identifies existing network performance and problems
    • Evaluates client networking opportunities
    • Creates networking strategy
    • Creates networking architecture
    • Develops logical network design plans and designs solutions

     

    • Develops sound proposals
    • Identifies risks (examples: NCR versus client, technical versus strategic)
    • Defines resources required for a network service project
    • Reviews/analyzes network modeling and simulation
    • Defines/validates documents required in proposal
    • Develops statement of work

     

    • Identifies and cultivates business opportunities within and beyond personal expertise
    • Identifies client’s strengths and weaknesses to assess and fill gaps
