Ping isnt a performance measurement. The ping icmp service have one of the most lowest priority on a switch.

If you like to test performance use iperf and test on tcp or udp protocol, not icmp.

Worth a mention this HPE Support Center storical article about that (this opens another series of questions: what your Switch is currently doing? then you can start to diagnose if its CPU is intesively processing traffic at a point that ICMP traffic is slowed down, given that its low priority, as needed due to network traffic conditions).

I also see this kind of ping delays in the past in some older firmware releases. What firmware is in use?

Could you share the output of "show system" and "show cpu", I would like to know if the CPU utilization is high.

Also please share the firmware/software version running  on the switch.

You can get it by running the command" show version" & "show flash".

    Hi,

Thank you for the information, the CPU utilization looks normal.

As observed in the release notes of the firmware's after "KB.16.02.0013".

There was a issue reported for slowness in ping response in a SSH session between switch and radius server, as shown in the below attached image.

I would recommend you to update the firmware to the maintenance release of "KB.16.02.0022m".

I hope this information is helpful

    That's interesting.

I too have a pair of Aruba 5400R zl2 (6 slots in my case) deployed by using VSF (using two 10G DACs between them) and back-to-back OoBM based MAD: their software is actually KB.16.05.0007.

I tested one hundred of Pings from a VM (on a routed subnet) to one VLAN IP address definded on VSF via another frontend switch (another Aruba 5412R zl2 which is doing the routing part) and no ping loss, I've just seen 2 ping with higher values (typically on the 30-70 ms range if compared to sub millisecond average value) but I consider them just glitches since the VSF is running normally both in terms of CPU and traffic carried over on its various interfaces/trunks.

Just as reference below the HPE IMC 7.3 E0605 Standard (Trial) Ping monitoring:VSF_VLAN_7_ping_monitoring.png

     as you see nothing unusual.
