Symptoms

Why is Cisco Jabber not working on Aruba when NAT is enabled?

This article is valid for Aruba controllers and OS versions.

Diagnosis

1. There is no issues in the connectivity b/w the IP phones, and Cisco call manager.
2. Call can be initiated and the bell goes to the phones.
3. the Phone whose traffic is natted cannot hear anything. If other phone is not natted, he can hear.

Solution

Cisco Jabber doesnt support NAT. Please refer to the document below:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cupc/8_6/b_jabber_RN_mac.html#reference_82EE281DF54A421AB6361FC77C2CB55D

"

Cisco Jabber is not compatible with Network Address Translation (NAT); it cannot use Simple Traversal of UDP through NAT (STUN), Traversal using NAT (TURN), or any other NAT-traversal scheme.

Cisco Jabber must be running through a VPN connection to traverse NAT."

1. We need to disable the NAT on the Aruba.
2. If NAT is necessary, we much make sure that there is a tunnel so that Jabber is not Natted.
