Does Aruba support Cisco pre-standard PoE phones?

Aruba Employee

Question :Cisco Has some phones which do not support IEEE POE ( 802.11at, 802.11 af) . Will these phones come up with Aruba Hardware?

Environment :This article applies to Aruba controllers, Mobility access switches and Aruba APs which support POE ( RAP-155P , RAP3-WNP )

Answer :Some Cisco IP Phones do not support IEEE standard POE power input. These phones support Cisco pre-standard PoE. Below is the list of such IP phones from cisco:

    7985G
    7960G
    7940G
    7910G
    7910G + SW
    7912G
    7905G
    7902G
    7962G
    7975G
    802.3af

1. We can have these Phones come up on the Mobility Switch by enabling cisco-compatiblity.

# config t
# poe-management-profile slot 0
# cisco-compatiblity

2. We can have these phones come when directly connected to Aruba controller with POE ports (Aruba 650):

# config t
# interface gigabitethernet < slot / port >
# poe cisco

3. These Phones however are not yet supports on RAPs which support POE ( RAP-3WNP / RAP-155p)
