What causes the ‘Warning! Some expected files are missing’ while performing "backup flash" on MAS?
Q:

A:

This warning message is not harmful and does not affect the flash backup functionality.

The flash filesystem is a mix of static and dynamic files/folders.

"backup flash" command tars the following files and folders:
"/flash/upload"
"/flash/cp"
"/flash/TZ"
"/flash/ssh*"
"/flash/webcert"
"/flash/certmgr"
"/flash/role"
"/flash/*.ver"
"/flash/db-back.*"
"/flash/via"
"/flash/config/default.cfg"
"/flash/config/.config"

All the dynamic folders are created on a need basis as and when the respective functionality is enabled.

For (e.g.) Authentication - AAA profile & “no trusted port” configured on a GE port with CPPM downloadable roles would result in the creation of “/flash/role” folder. If AUTH is configured on the switch with CPPM role enabled, upon configuration & receiving a downloadable role the “/flash/role” folder will be created.

The “backup flash” command runs through the hardcoded list of files (both static & dynamic) for backup, the warning message we see on the CLI is a mere indication that the command could not backup few dynamic folders, because they don’t really exist in the system.
