Why do we get "Invalid destination interface" while configuring mirroring profile in MAS?

Introduction : While configuring a Mirroring profile you may get an error "Invalid destination interface". This Article explains the cause of this config error message and how to address this.

(Abi-MAS) (config) #interface-profile mirroring-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (Mirroring profile "Heron-mirror") #destination gigabitethernet 0/0/40
Invalid destination interface: gigabitethernet gigabitethernet0/0/30 has non-default parameter

Feature Notes : Configuring Mirroring-profile in any code version.

Environment : Configuring Port mirroring on MAS switches and addressing config error that may come up.

Network Topology : Port to be monitored ------ MAS ------- Mirror destination port

Configuration Steps :

Unable to configure a port as a destination port for mirroring.

(Abi-MAS) (config) #interface-profile mirroring-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (Mirroring profile "Proton-mirror") #destination gigabitethernet 0/0/30
Invalid destination interface: gigabitethernet gigabitethernet0/0/30 has non-default parameter

Check for any Interface group configuration.

(Abi-MAS) #show interface-group-config gigabitethernet

gigabitethernet List
--------------------
Name              References  Profile Status
----              ----------  --------------
default           0
Floor-port-group  0
Total:2

Check if the interface group has the mirror destination port as a member.

(Abi-MAS) #show interface-group-config gigabitethernet Floor-port-group

gigabitethernet "Floor-port-group"
----------------------------------
Parameter                                        Value

Answer:

If the destination port of a mirror is a member of an interface group config, this error is thrown as all member ports of a group need to have similar config.

So remove the port from the interface-group config.

(Abi-MAS) (config) #interface-group gigabitethernet Floor-port-group
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "Floor-port-group") # no apply-to
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "Floor-port-group") #apply-to 0/0/0-0/0/39
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "Floor-port-group") #exit

(Abi-MAS) #show interface-group-config gigabitethernet Floor-port-group

gigabitethernet "Floor-port-group"
----------------------------------
Parameter                                        Value
---------                                        -----
Interface group members                          0/0/0-0/0/39
Interface MSTP profile                           default
Interface PVST profile                           default
Interface Tunneled Node profile                  N/A
Interface VOIP profile                           N/A
Interface LLDP profile                           default
Interface PoE profile                            default
Interface OAM profile                            N/A
Interface Ethernet link profile                  default
Interface LACP profile                           N/A
QoS Profile                                      N/A
Policer Profile                                  N/A
Interface AAA profile                            N/A
Interface Ingress Mirroring profile              N/A
Interface Egress Mirroring profile               N/A
Interface shutdown                               Disabled
mtu                                              1514
Ingress ACL                                      N/A
Egress ACL                                       N/A
QoS Trust                                        N/A
Interface switching profile                      lab-port
Interface port security profile                  N/A
Static IGMP Multicast Router port for the VLANs  N/A
Static MLD Multicast Router port for the VLANs   N/A
Interface Trusted/Untrusted                      Trusted

Now its hould be possible to configure the port as the destination for mirroring.

(Abi-MAS) (config) #interface-profile mirroring-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (Mirroring profile "Heron-mirror") #destination gigabitethernet 0/0/40

Apply the config to the ports that you want to monitor.

(Abi-MAS) (config) # interface gigabitethernet 0/0/36
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/36") #mirroring-in-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/36") #mirroring-out-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/36") #exit
(Abi-MAS) (config) #interface gigabitethernet 0/0/37
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/37") #mirroring-in-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/37") #mirroring-out-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/37") #exit
(Abi-MAS) (config) #interface gigabitethernet  0/0/38
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/38") #mirroring-in-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/38") #mirroring-out-profile Proton-mirror
(Abi-MAS) (gigabitethernet "0/0/38") #exit
(Abi-MAS) (config) #exit

Verification : The same can also be verified if the profile has been successfully applied.

(Abi-MAS) #show interface-profile mirroring-profile

Mirroring profile List
----------------------
Name          References  Profile Status
----          ----------  --------------
Proton-mirror  6
Total:1

Troubleshooting : The show commands that can be used in this are:
 #show interface-group-config gigabitethernet
 #show interface-group-config gigabitethernet Floor-port-group
 #show interface-group-config gigabitethernet Floor-port-group
 #show interface-profile mirroring-profile

Hi !

Does the device that is sitting on "destination gigabitethernet 0/0/40" have a static IP on it.

I've tried the above and when I set the device on the destination port, it is no longer pingable if it's outside the port group.

Are there other port settings that need to be made?

Thanks!

Update: Disregard this post, we got it working.  Thanks!
