    Greetings,

As the name suggests I probably have no clue what I'm doing.

Is it optimal to connect all 4 Aruba 225 directly to the modem ports even though it will only give 1000MB max, or connect the APs sequentially; that is router-> AP1 -> AP2 -> AP3 -> AP4? I have also Gigaport switch. Also is it normal that the APs get super hot to the point I can't touch it from the back? Thanks!

    Hi!

There´s plenty of options and they´re all different depending on what you want to accomplish. Since you´re not mentioning what you want to accomplish I´ll answer what I think looks like the most common way to connect the equipment you´ve mentioned.

Your modem holds the internet connection and a downlink to your gigabit switch. Your gigabit switch connects and powers all your AP-225.

And yes they do get very hot.

    Cheers,

    Hi

I have a modem (and is a router as well) that has 4 empty ports. I have 4
Aruba APs that I can either connect directly to the router ports or use a
gigabit switch but I don't think it would make a difference, right? the
ports on the router support 10/100/1000 but I presume when I use them all
it wouldn't give me a 1000 on all of them. The other option is to connect
one AP to the router and set it as master AP and sequentially connect the
    other three; that is AP2 in AP1, AP3 in AP2, AP4 in AP3. Would that make a
difference in the performance as opposed to connecting them directly to
    router?

    Thanks

I would use the gigabit switch to leave free ports for something else that need wired access. Do not connect them in the chain like setup you mention, rather all in the router or all in the switch.

    Cheers,

If I may ask why not? Wouldn't make sense for the master AP to handle the others without needing to negotiate with the router? Also if the gigabit switch gets into one gigabit port into the router, does that mean all APs will share that 1000mb? As opposed to connecting them directly to router and getting a 1000 each?

There are several reasons not to connect anything in that type of chain but the biggest one in this scenario is that it´s not supported. If you´re going to be deploying in hierarchical fashion one AP needs to be the root AP and then the others connect to the segment under it.

And the "negotiation" you´re talking about is only L2/L3 networking. You want to be as close as possible to the gateway which will be the router. Think more like a star rather than a chain or a ring.

In terms of bandwidth, do you have more than 1Gbit/s internet connection? If not, do you have something internally that can handle more than 1Gbit/s traffic? My guess is no, 1Gbit/s shared bandwidth from the switch up to your router will probably be sufficient.

    Good luck,

Thanks. I have a 200mb connection and really don't use any fancy streaming
to transferring files over network. So probably ill just connect them all
to router. now only thing I have to figure out is that I don't have a
direct cable from router to the fourth AP. I bought 4 PoE and when I try
to use a power ins it won't connect. so probably,ly the only way I can get
powerline working is buying a regular power adapter for the ap to work and
then connect the powering directly to the AP as opposed to the Pod which
seems to filter or reject the powerline.
