    Hello everyone,

I had a POC with one Aruba 7008 lately and decided to go for two 7205 for a redundant setup, looking at articles explaning the setup on AOS 6.5.4 it looked "simple". However, the newest AOS 8.2.1.0 got me a bit confused, talking to Aruba support a bit more :(

Initially I setup both as MASTER and configured VRRP with failover, however, the APs (AP-315) never showed up in the controller, so unable to proceed, restoring them back to 6.5.4 worked like a charm.

(Bonus info, then running 8.2.1.0 in master mode, gui shows an alert, mentions "Open flow not supported in master mode, why?)

In short, HP support said the arcitecture had changed and the controllers should be setup as standalone and then using VRRP or HA.

But for me it seems like I have to do all the configurations on both controllers and nothing is synched between controlelrs, so it seems wrong...HA worked very rapidly, but the other controller saw it a "Unapproved until I approved it"...Seems like a lot of work, hence I considere myself de-routed...lol

To sum up, I have 2x 7205 and 20x AP-315, goal is a redundant setup, where I just configure on one controller or  at top level for both.

Keywords would be much appreciated :)

    Best regards,

In AOS 8 things changed a bit compare to AOS 6:
    - You won't be able to terminate APs on the Controller acting as a Master
    (no redundancy)
    - To have a fully redundant deployment you will need to add additional
controller 1x Master with 2x Locals
    - Won't be able to fully take advantage of all the new features in AOS 8

I recommend you add the Mobility Master and this way you can take advantage
of all the AOS 8 features

Thank you for the feedback, going forward it will support ~150 APs, so I need one Aruba MM-VA-500?

So the "Aruba MM-VA-500" will be ontrolling the two 7205? Or?

Sorry for the stupid questions, I just dont want to assume something!

    Best regards,

And by all means, can I succeed with failover with the items I have now?

How long can VRRP take me with the setup I have?

    Best regards,

Yes but you will need to stay with AOS 6.x

    Hello Victor,

Thank you for feedback, would “Aruba MM-VA-500” be the extra i nede for ex 150 ApS?

If you want to future proof your deployment that wouldn’t be a bad idea but it comes down to preference

    Hello Victor,

I got it working with VRRP and HA setup, bot controllers setup as standalone from the beginning, failover works as intended and the aps jump to secondary
