3400 controller with AP105s cant get more than 72mbps

Hi guys,

Im having trouble with clients on a customer site not being able to connect at more than 72Mbps.

No bandwidth throttling on, at the moment we only have two clients connected. (the school is shut), with 34 APs.

The SSID is stating it is 802.11gn

looking at the monitoring we have HT enabled on both aerials and within the SSID.

Clients only ever connect on the bg channel when looking at the monitoring screen (although an iphone we have connected has connected automatically to the a channel).

Clients are N capable.

Anyone explain why the clients cant connect at a higher speed?

Cheers.

Re: 3400 controller with AP105s cant get more than 72mbps

do a

show ap ht-rates bssid <xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx>

on one of the bssid they are connecting to.

It will be the client that decides what band to connect to, though you can influence this with band-steering enabled in the VAP.

:-)

Re: 3400 controller with AP105s cant get more than 72mbps

Hi Michael,

and thanks for the assist.

Controller is rejecting the BSSID in the command which is annoying. >:(

I think the crux of it is we are only getting one spatial stream.

72mbps is too round a number... Cards should be capable of 150 ... bgn's... cant seem to see where this would be limited though...

Are you sure that your clients are MIMO-capable? My laptop has a crappy wireless nic that only supports one stream.

Re: 3400 controller with AP105s cant get more than 72mbps

show ap association

will show how many streams the clients are connected with.

Check the clients as well.  How many radios do they have and how many antennas connected?

Issues like this are almost always the fault of the client and/or driver.

Michael_Clarke is right.  What kind of clients are these?  There are many netbooks/tablets that will only do 72...

Hi guys,

sorry for the slow reply, had to go on to another site...

My thoughts exactly, but...

The adaptors tested are a 1x2 and 1x3. on the 1x2 works ok on a cisco setup and client reports the 1x3 working correctly on a BT Home Hub.
