AP-27x lightning arrestor details

Planning a large outdoor deployment and really need to get the 411 on the the integrated lightning arrestors on these models. Also, when are additionnal la's required.

These particular AP's will be mounted directly to building's brick walls with some also planned in parking garages. We will use the connectorized ANT-3x3 flavored antenna's with no extension cables if that matters.

Documentation supported this would be great.I'm not finding a clear cut answer in any data sheet or in the Outdoor MIMO Wireless Networks VRD.

The AP275 needs a grounding wire.  Download the installation guide here:  http://support.arubanetworks.com/Documentation/tabid/77/DMXModule/512/Default.aspx?EntryId=13350 and look for "ground".

Additionally you would only need lightning arrestors on antenna cables longer than 2m.

Jerrod-

Why would you want to leave the arrestors off of coax under 2m?  Just curious, since they are extremely effective for near strikes.

Re: AP-27x lightning arrestor details

That is the new guidance from the outdoor PLM at Aruba, and was passing it along. The design of the 274 is sufficiently different that short runs of LMR don't require arrestors, so either the PCB/board has better accomodation to near strike induction, or has internal grounding to handle it.

I will check and see if we can get that added as a note in the 274 IG.

Also note that there is nothing preventing you from using arrestors if you want, you would just need 6x AP-LAR-1s (the 27x has ACC filtering circuitry to filter out nearband cellular so you don't need the AP-LAR-24). But so long as the chassis is grounded, inductance over a 2m cable can be handled by the internal circuitry of the AP (they are that awesome indeed).
