AP won't attach to newly upgraded controller

I just upgraded our test controller from 6.1.3.7 to 6.2.1.  I also attached a local controller to it (also running 6.2.1).  I plugged in an AP105, manually configured the 'master' and 'servername' environment vars but it won't attach to the controller it just sits there doing:

Retry count exceeded
eth0 up: 1 Gb/s full duplex
DHCP broadcast 1
DHCP IP address: xxxxxxx
DHCP subnet mask: 255.255.254.0
DHCP def gateway: xxxxxxx
DHCP DNS server: xxxxxxx
DHCP DNS domain: xxxxxxx
ADP broadcast 208
ADP multicast 209
ADP broadcast 209
ADP multicast 210
ADP broadcast 210

So it is clear that it is getting an IP, I have also confirmed that adp is enabled on the master and local controllers.  I'm not sure what else to try.  Thoughts?

Re: AP won't attach to newly upgraded controller

Can you show an output of your printenv?

To be clear you can do setenv on master and serverip; not servername.

that was it.  thanks for the tip.  Is there documentation mentioning that somewhere that would have saved me from posting here?

Re: AP won't attach to newly upgraded controller

The user guide has mention of this.  The section in the 6.2 Guide is titled Managing AP Console Settings; page 437.

The following summarizes the options:

Set Environment Variables

  • setenv ipaddr x.x.x.x
  • setenv netmask x.x.x.x
  • setenv gatewayip x.x.x.x
  • setenv master x.x.x.x
  • setenv serverip x.x.x.x
  • setenv name xxxxxx
  • setenv group xxxxxx

Required without DNS or option 43:

  • setenv master
  • setenv serverip

Required without DHCP:

  • setenv ipaddr
  • setenv netmask
  • setenv gatewayip

To set an AP as a RAP:

  • setenv remote_ap 1

Optional Commands:

  • setenv dnsip
  • setenv group xxxxxx
  • printenv
  • setenv
  • save
  • purge
  • reset
  • ping
  • boot
  • version
  • clear os
  • upgrade
  • tftpboot
  • dhcp
