ARM Receive Sensitivity

    Hi,

     

    How is arm controlling the receiver sensitivity of the AP? I read the information regarding this specific parameter but it only says it is used to reduce co-channel interference between APs. If it is reducing the receiver sensitivity, what specific parameter is it adjusting to cause the rx sensitivity to go down. Is it adjusting the other AP's transmit power? Is it adjusting the allowed data rates? Is it adjusting the carrier sense threshold? Is it adjusting the error correction rate supported? Thanks.

    I don't think there is an ARM receive sensitivity.  Nothing can increase receive sensitivity...

    Actually, it is under the 802.11a/g radio settings. There is a parameter to control the radio's receive sensitivity.

    Please read the user guide about how this is used. This is an advanced topic so Typical users would not have to touch this. Nothing can increase the receive sensitivity of the radio.

    Thanks cjoseph. I have read the user guide for this and it does not really say much other that it is used to control the receive sensitivity of the AP. What actual RF or DSP parameter is adjusted when this is tweaked is not mentioned.

    Although still an advanced knob and a very good understanding of RF is needed, Aruba is  recommending the configuration of this setting in the Lync VRD released a few months ago.  For dense deployments (only), the value should be -10 if using .11n APs and -15 if using .11ac APs.  Only mess with this setting if you know what you're doing and have tested the effects of this in your environment as it can have disastrous effects.

    As the common analogy goes, you're putting earmuffs on the AP so that it doesn't hear anything below a threshold.  In reality, you're telling the AP to interpret signals below the threshold as noise and allow the AP to transmit rather than wait.  The value you input is in dB and is subtracted from the noise floor.  So if you're noise floor is -90 and your receive sensitivity is -15, anything below -75 would be ignored.  If configured correctly, this can help you with CCI issues in dense deployments.
