it seems to focus on sharing devices like Apple TVs and printers. but what about access devices (iPhones / iPads) sharing services which each other, like iTunes or Idea Flight.

This should support any service that uses mDNS for advertisement and discovery. There is nothing in the feature that will restrict its use to a small subset of services only. By the time this is fully released, it should include the ability for a network administrator to choose the list of services that they want to allow or deny, as well as the ability to add new services that we are not aware of and/or will be introduced in the future (for example, AirPlay exists for a little more than a year now).

What is the first code rev where AirGroup is available, and where is it configured?

I've been informed the code level is 6.1.4.  I'll look for the configuration then :-)
