I have an IAP-135 cluster running on 6.3.1.1-4.0.0.0 and I would like to add  a couple of IAP 205 to the existing cluster?

I know that the IAP-205 need at least 6.4.1.0/4.1.1.0 to work so I plan to upgrade the cluster to 6.4.4.4-4.2.3.2 which is supported by both IAP 135 and IAP 105.

Can IAP 135 and IAP 205 be part of the same cluster? Is there any special steps besides updating that I should do before updating?

You are on the right track.  They both have to be on the same version of code to even "see" each other.
