Changing the master controller ip address in our network

Hi All,

We are having a master controller of IP address 192.168.10.6 . Right now all the AP's are terminated here in master controller and got provisioned. There is no sepearte local controller.

As a requirement , we are going to add one more backup master controller and we are going to run VRRP between this.

So we want to change the ip addresses as below ,

Master controller: 192.168.10.6 (sepearte physical ip)

secondary controller: 192.168.10.5(sepeate physical ip)

VRRP IP : 192.168.10.7

We will be chaging the option 43 with new Virtual ip address of controller and AP will get the information about the same.

My doubt is that , AP's are already provisioned and associated. If we change the master controller ip address whether the AP will be able to register properly or do we need to purge all the settings in the AP level? we are having 200 Ap's already associated with controller.

Kindly clarify.

Re: Changing the master controller ip address in our network

You can bring up the VRRP instance and change option 43 ahead of time. Then you can reboot a single AP to test.

Hi Mr.Tim ,

So there is no need to purge each and every AP's in order to register with new ip address of controller right?

Re: Changing the master controller ip address in our network

hi

you can change the  first controlleur ip Address to 192.168.10.7 and the vrrp ip to 192.168.10.6 , and this way you do not need to reaprovione you APs.

you can also chage the Controlleur IP value in the DHCP option 43.

No. The APs will look for option 43 when they boot and find the master on the new IP.

Thanks,

Also consider whether you have an LMS IP specified in your AP System profile that may need adjusting as well.
