I know this post is a can of worms. There are so many variables in play client types, radio support, applications in use, density of access points the list goes on and on.

Discounting all the various factors for a moment. Assume you have a 11ac access point that supports 2x2:2.

OFF THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD ...

Voice/Data Client Mix -- How many clients per radio ? How many clients total per AP?

Data Client -- How many clients come to mind per radio ? How many clients total per AP?

Just trying to take a simple pulse what comes to peoples minds. Sure we can talk all the math but looking for a quick anwser that comes to your mind.

    Voice/Data Client Mix --

How many clients per radio ? 17

How many clients total per AP? 35

    Data Client --

How many clients come to mind per radio ? 25

How many clients total per AP? 50

    Hey George,

Our longtime planning guidance for data clients is 150 associations per radio and 50 concurrent / active devices per radio.

That is 300 associations and 100 concurrent devices per AP with a dual-radio AP.

In the last 18 months, we have seen some high density networks with 100-200 associated devices on a regular basis.

Now, the exact achievable throughput will vary based on a range of factors including how much CCI there is between same-channel APs and clients  (e.g. how isolated the collision domains are), distance from AP, SINR of AP, etc.

These numbers have to be on the extreme side, no? That sounds heavy .. Is there any documents that talks to this in detail specific with the numbers you mention ?

    Thanks!
