    Hi All,

Why the laptop and smartphone connect to Aruba AP 205 and AP 105 it doesn't use 5GHz radio but it use 2.4GHz radio, even it is very near to the AP (just around 1 to 3 meter away). Laptop and smartphone has 5GHz radio.

I already configure the Aruba controller with "Band Steering" and "Prefered 5GHz" it look like doesn't work.

Only way is manually configure the laptop or smartphone use 5GHz connect to Aruba AP.

    Please advise

Is this instant or a controller-based AP?

It is controller based. Running 6.4

You should try "force" for the band steering parameter.

In truth, 2.4ghz radio waves propagate further than 5ghz radio waves for the same power.  You you would have to run the 5ghz on the radio 3 to 6 db higher for the client to prefer 5ghz without using band steering.  It is still the client's choice about which band they connect to; we can only do things like band steering and raising the power on the 5ghz band to influence it.

    These settings work for me:

Max tx power 2.4ghz 15 and min tx power 2.4ghz 9

Max tx power 5ghz 24 and min tx power 5ghz 18
