Also, just because it is operating as a RAP, doesn't mean you can't use it in the campus environmnet. Just make sure your public controller endpoint IP is accessible from inside your network.

    Cappalli,

I read on the Product Line Matrix that the RAP-2 can support the convertion to CAP.

Is because I have that doubt.

I send the .pdf if you can chek this part.

Does it show up in the AP Installation screen on your controller?

Boot it up new on the same subnet as a controller and it will function as a CAP.

They weren't designed for the load of a campus environment. Especially the
RAP-2 which is designed for 3-4 devices.

Guess he knows that.. maybe he wants to use it in a enviroment that for example a hotel which  no more than 5 devices will be connected to the AP in one room...

Sometimes clients just  dont have the budget., or they do and want to save the money.. dont know in the US but here its really hard to go agains cheapers solutions... Like Rukus or HP(specially HP its owning the market in my country... its just too cheap!), they might not do all what aruba can do but they do what they want, im talking about client point of  view.

And thats why sometmies you came up with crazy solutions like that to compete in price hehe... but yeah its not recommended...

You actually need to create a need! for the client of something that aruba can do that the others cant! and it has worked me though sometimes.

    Cheers

    Carlos

Sorry to add to the confusion, but as of AOS 6.1.x and higher, RAP-2WG as campus AP is deprecated - the following log message will be seen:

    Aug 7 12:06:23 stm[1567]: <305043> <WARN> |stm| AP rap2 (type RAP-2WG) can only be used as a remote AP.

showing unlicensed+inactive in the AP database

Name Group AP Type IP Address Status Flags Switch IP

from what I understand, there was a plan to allow it, then it was revoked by R&D. At the end of the day, RAP-2 cannot function as campus these days.

this is my case when I did an upgrade in the controller and  the controller pass from 5.0.4.9 to 6.1.3.9 I lost  the Rap-2, the status of the Rap was Down.

only as RAP it can be operated in this version (6.1.3.9)?

    Hi chbaca

yes, that is the case for all 6.x, the RAP-2 is locked down to RAP only. Perhaps you can consider a RAP-3 instead, as it functions fine as CAP.

Even though it is provisioned as a remote AP, you could still configure it
to behave similarly to a campus AP, especially of you are using tunnel.
