DHCP offer response time

    Is there any documention or best practices for DHCP OFFER response times? I am seeing between 35ms & 85ms response times. I am monitoring my DHCP server using solarwinds.

     

    Thoughts?

    Is this on wired or wireless?  If it is on wireless, it is a shared medium and those are still good numbers.  If the numbers go above 100ms, it is more a concern for 802.1x clients that would timeout more than anything else.

    Is it possible that your DHCP server has high CPU?  Did you try installing wireshark on a test device, capturing the DHCP traffic and seeing how long it takes?  Is it possible that your wired device has negotiated improperly and there are errors on the switch interface?

    Is it possible that there is a misnegotiation on one of your links between switches or routers, and that is causing your issue?
