Can anyone explain the difference between the two?

Below is what the UG provides, but it's as clear as mud to me..

    User Idle Timeout
Maximum period after which a client is considered idle if there is no wireless traffic from the client. The timeout period is reset if there is wireless traffic. If there is no wireless traffic in the timeout period, the client is aged out. Once the timeout period has expired, the user is removed. If the keyword seconds is not specified, the value defaults to minutes at the command lineRange: 1 to 255 minutes (30 to 15300seconds) Default: 5 minutes (300 seconds)

    Station Ageout Time
Time, in seconds, that a client is allowed to remain idle before being aged out

station ageout refers to 802.11 traffic vs. the user idle timeout which is client traffic.  The station ageout does not necessarily mean ageout of the user table; but rather from an RF perspective; the wms database.

Hi thanks for the response. So there is no deauthentication sent to the client after station ageout?

Hi We have 7220 Wireless controller and 697AP's, Users keeps re-authenticating after a sort of time. I actually tried configuring AAA profile User-Idle timeout to 15300 secs and even the global settings but users experiencing a disconnection reportedly even playing games and active for 30 minutes.

    Any suggestions on this?

    Ken,

If this is business critical, you will want to open a TAC support case to ensure you get immediate attention to your situation.

As for the frequent re-authentications, a packet capture of the event should help pin point the problem as to whether it's the infrastructure disconnecting the client, or the client device disconnecting from the infrastructure. If the users are online and active, there should be both user traffic and 802.11 traffic so that neither timeout value is being hit.
