Does channel width affect channel utilization?

    Hi Airheads,

If an AP is reporting high 'Busy' channel utilization for 5GHz radios, and assuming low interference from neighboring APs - could increasing channel bandwidth from 20Mhz to 40Mhz reduce 'Busy' utilization?

I would have thought so as there is effectively more 'space' for client traffic?

I'm asking specifically for a small / dense deployment with 8 APs - with our regulatory domain there would be 4 available 40MHz channels.

Are you saying that you have high utilization on a 5ghz channel that is only using 20mhz?

Check to see if it is or is not legitimate client traffic that is consuming that bandwidth.  Increasing to 40mhz channels will not help you, really.

    What is your situation?

Since you mentioned density, I would suggest reading up on Mode Aware ARM.

Possibly, but wouldn't that reduce your number of non-overlapping channels?

How many SSID's are you adversiting?
