Does Aruba have any gear (combination of AP and Antenna) that could go 4.5 miles LOS?

It would have to have a throughout of 5-10mbps to be feasible.

    Sam,

The Aruba AirMesh product series, including both MSR2K and MSR4K, can be used for such long distance purpose.

MSR can typically achieve 10Mbps and above throughput over 5 miles distance with ANT-2x2-5614 directional antenna. Of course, Line-Of-Sight condition is assumed here.

How about 13 km link? do you have budlink calculator where you can drop down different Aruba outdoor radio and antenna then it will compute the fade margin, availability, RSL EIRP?

Unfortunately we do not have a calculator/spreadsheet with that functionality (11n outdoor propagation is not a linear calculation unfortunately). Xu may have a better answer on the 13km link, but I haven't seen any out that distance, and most likely not at any useable throughput.

    Hi Marlon,

In a Pt-Pt setup, recommended link budget for MSR2000 or AP-175 is only upto 7km.

You can build out 13km links by forming a multihop link. Since both radios in MSR2000 can be configured for backhaul, you will only need 3 APs to setup the 13km link. My recommendation is that you make the first hop at about 6km assuming clear LOS.

why we use Aruba outdoor mesh and AP-175 AP's used for Point to Point solution?

and how many Bandwidth and Coverage when we installed AP175 with External Omni Antenna 10 to 13 dbi. Is client device upgrade for this Hotspot or only simple Laptop Wifi work on this. i am little bit confuse, so please clarify in detail. Thanks

    Hi Ishtiaq,

AP175 is a campus extension AP and requires the Aruba controller. MSR routers are based on a distributed architecture and does not require an Aruba controller. For Pt-Pt solution, MSR routers or AP175 will do the job. You will choose the right AP based on cost, or if you have an existing Aruba indoor solution and have a controller at the NOC. If you have an exisitng controller and if client access is a requirement, then choose the AP175.

I am not exactly sure about your second question. Please let me know if I go off topic here. Aruba supports upto 10dbi omni antennas at 5GHz and  and 5dbi omni antennas at 2.4Ghz. We do not support the 13dbi gain today. Coverage requirements is based on type of clients. We have deployments ranging from 300m to 500m.

    Marlon,

Both MSR and AP-175 can be used for P2P or P2MP long distance links. The main difference between MSR and AP-175 are:

    1. AP-175 runs AOS and requires Aruba controller to work; while MSR runs Aruba MeshOS and can work without controller.

    2. AP-175 has all AOS features but only one radio can work in the 5Ghz with another radio on 2.4Ghz. MSR doesn't have advanced AOS features such as ARM and Firewall, but MSR allows you to configure any radio in any available frequency band (2.4Ghz, 4.9Ghz and 5Ghz) in any combination.

For long distance links, both ends of the link has to be the same type, which means both have to be either MSR or AP-175. You cannot use MSR or AP-175 on one side while a laptop with high gain antenna on the other side.

To achieve the 13km distance, as Mohammed suggests, the best solution will be to use a two-hop solution, as following:

    MSR1(Radio1)------(7km)-------(Radio 1)MSR2(Radio 2)------(7km)------(Radio 1)MSR3

In this case, yes, we recommend using ANT-2x2-5614U 14dBi high gain MIMO antenna to achieve good throughput.

    Best,

    Xu

    Hi Everyone,

In scenario where the customer doesn't want to use point to point and just use AP 175 for covering radial distance of 1.5 kilometer. In this how do we get use AP 175 product.
