Flash overloaded with default.cfg files

Had a problem backing up flash and noticed on this particular controller there were over 100 default.cfg files all with differnt timestamps. I deleted most of them and had no problem backing up flash.

I am wondering why/how so many default.cfg files came to being? Perhaps a primer on the subject would help. Poking around a few other controllers did show a few with high numbers of the file, but nothing close to what the first controller had. Time stamps of the files indicate this started back in the 3.4 days on though today where we are at 6.1.4.5, all FIPS.

i believe everytime you reboot a controller it saves the default.cfg (startup-config) to flash with a timestamp
