Guest SSID not visible to all devices

    Posted Mar 21, 2012 05:04 AM

I have problems creating a guest ssid that is visible to all devices.

I have tried both manually and by wizard, but ssid is only visible to some laptops.

For example the ssid is not visible to a HP and a Macbook air, but is visible to some Dell laptops.

I have tried both radio profile all and locked to g band.

    Anyone have any idea...?

Are you have the problem with only that wireless network not being seen?

    Posted Mar 21, 2012 08:44 AM

No, all the SSIDs on that controller act the same way..

How long has this network been in production, and what regulatory domain is it?

This is a new installation. First time setup.

    This controller is in Norway...

Do you have access to the command line of the controller? If you do, type "show ap bss-table" to see what networks are being broadcasted from each access point..

I figured out now the the problem only exists on the AP93s, not on the AP105.

Also only a/n radio light is on, on the AP93.. a/b/g radio is off..

It looks like the g-radio is not on, on the AP93s..

Can this has anything do do with it?

Go to configuration > wireless > ap configuration. Edit the Ostford ap group. Expand ap, then click on ap system profile. In the right pane there should be a parameter called " rf band". Change it to "g" then click on apply.

I have checked that and it is already on g band..

Are you using the built in rf planner on the controller?

  • 15.  RE: Guest SSID not visible to all devices

Yes, i have depoyed a RF plan, but the APs does not belong to that RF plan yet..

    Allright.  type this:

show ap config ap-name <name of ap>  | include "RF Band"

It should tell you where the AP is getting its "RF Band" configuration from.

  • 17.  RE: Guest SSID not visible to all devices

    Posted Mar 25, 2012 09:23 AM

    (skill-aruba01) #show ap config ap-name skill-ap01  | include "RF Band"
    RF Band                                                         g                               g                      ap system-profile "default"
RF Band for AM mode scanning                                    all                             all                    ap system-profile "default"

It is the default profile, and as the picture show that shows that it should use the g band.

What is the difference between the AP group Ostford and Oslo?  Please try to provsion one of the APs in the Ostford group to Oslo instead and see what happens.

The difference is that office@skill i AP group Oslo has another vlan.

I tried to "move" skill-ap01 into group Oslo, but that didnt change much..

No, sorry, not right now. Iam at home and the APs at work in another town.

I tried to create a new AP group called "sarpsborg" with reg. domain NO, and provision the APs to that AP group, but then i get this:

    Thanks, for that.

In the rf ARM profile default, you should disable power-save-aware scan.  Also disable client-aware scan, and multi-band scan.

Theoretically those should not make a difference, but that is the only idea I have before opening a TAC case.

Ok, as you said, that didnt make a difference. :)

I will open a TAC case now..

Thank you very much for your time!!

I will post a solution when i get this figured out.. :)

I have now solved the case with great help from TAC.

    This is the solution:

    apboot > purge

    apboot > clear os

    apboot > setenv serverip <Controller-IP>

    apboot >  save

    apboot > reset

After that i reprov. the AP and then the G radio was up! :)
