Here's the scenario: We have a small remote office that has a RAP-5WN which terminates to a 650 controller in the branch office. We have just added an extra room in the remote office and the RAP-5's wireless range is not sufficient to cover the new area.

Is it possible to terminate an AP to the RAP? If so, any ideas of how to do this will be most welcome.

    A. Consider Deploy LAN - 1. buy another RAP unit (maybe RAP3 will be enough for the new room) 2.set one of the ports in the RAP3-WN as TUNNEL and u will be able to terminate an AP.

    B. Consider using MESH (with 5.0Ghz) buy another Aruba AP with dual radio.

In your first suggestion, would the AP be terminating back to the 650 controller? This would mean creating a GRE tunnel inside a GRE tunnel, which would generate a lot of overhead.

today, your RAP5 unit is configured with GRE tunnel or IPSEC (REMOTE) tunnel?

What wan connectivity u got between the A650 to your RAP5 unit?

i advise u to try it
configure on of the ports as tunnel - and connect to it a GRE tunnel (CAP) AP.

    20MB Metro Ethernet.

    OK, I'll test it.

    Thanks for your help.

It is not recommended to put an AP behind a RAP.

Yep..it's not recommnded - but if it's is only option...so he might try it.

I prefer mesh..or another RAP unit with lan cable (not the the first RAP unit)

Following my current research, it looks like the best solution would be to setup an Aruba Instant network in the remote office using a RAP-155 and an IAP-105 and creating an IPSEC tunnel from the VC to the 650 in the branch office.

    #RAP155

IAP-VPN is the new best practice.

Also good idea. It's dosent have to be IAP in order to be RAP in front of a controller (it can also be normal AP105 ,just configure it as a RAP)

if your controller is 650 with AOS 6.3 , than u cant IAP vpn to it.... as far as this table saying:

We too have a similar situation except we have a 3600 controller, can we do the same thing?

How would the traffic in an IPSEC situation reach local resources?  Would it go to the controller first?

    John,

As Cappali suggested, IAP-VPN is the new best practice if we you have 3400 controller
