IOS 8 and Aruba Captive portal ERROR

Hi,

my customer upgraded their iPhone to IOS 8.

Now only that phones cannot connect to captive portal. other Android or symbian are not affected by the issue.

iPhone say: Safari cannot open securelogin.arubanetworks.com because there's not a secure connection with the server.

AOS 6.4.0.1 in the 7200 controller. AP175.

How can we proceed?

Thank you

Re: IOS 8 and Aruba Captive portal ERROR

What site is the user trying to browse when the message comes up?  Can the user try to browse a non-https site to see if they still have the issue?

Re: IOS 8 and Aruba Captive portal ERROR

Android and IOS handly captive portals differently, so the problem might not show up on Android, but might be IOS-specific.

What is the page that the user is trying to get to?  If it is an https page (google, yahoo and facebook now redirect to https pages), it is possible that you will get this error, because https://www.facebook.com does not match the name on the "securelogin.arubanetworks.com" certificate.  I don't have enough information to know if that is your issue.

Re: IOS 8 and Aruba Captive portal ERROR

We are having this exact same issue.  I currently have an open TAC case trying to work through it (been ongoing for a month since I opened the case).  But what happens is they IOS 8 device connects to our Public wireless SSID, and then tries to browse the web.  They then get redirected to our ClearPass captive portal.  They then go through the registration successfully, and get the receipt page successfully.  On the receipt page, is a connect button which authenticates them onto the public SSID and allows browsing.  After clicking connect, safari goes to an error screen about not creating a secure connection and the url in the browser bar starts with securelogin.arubanetworks.com.

I think it has something to do with how IOS8 is interacting with the redirects between our ClearPass vm and our aruba controller and something in that interaction is causing the error.

I will let you know when we figure it out with TAC.

Re: IOS 8 and Aruba Captive portal ERROR

We also experience an error after iOS 8 update.  However, this only affects the Safari brower, installing Chrome or another browser enables authentication through the captive portal login screen.
