Issues Upgrading from 5.0.4.15 to 6.2.1.6

    After doing the upgrade, I would see about 10-12 ap's come up for a bit and then they would go back down. They were being flagged as 2I. I'm not sure what the 2 meant but I know the I means inactive. I let it sit for an hour thinking it was just doing some updates on the AP's but nothing ever changed. It would show about a dozen ap's as up for a bit then they would go down and another batch would come up. I rebooted to the other partition that still had 5.0.4.15 and everything was fine again.

     

    I really would like to upgrade to the newest ArubaOS 6.3 for client matching. Any idea what could be conflicting with the upgrade?

    2 means IKEv2, which probably means you have control plane security enabled.  Do you have a firewall between the access points and the controller?  the "I" can sometimes mean that you are not allowing all  traffic necessary between the access points and the controller for them to come up properly.

    No firewall between the controller and ap's. Some of the AP's are on different vlans from the controller, some on the same but either way we never had an issue in the past. Everything went back to working like normal as soon as I went back to ArubaOS 5.0.4.15.

    Hello!

    Everything should be automatic and if that is happening then it must be investigated...

    The faster way to investigated or at least what i would do is upgrading, and if i see that issue i would go and console in that AP to see whats happening....
    If you are able to do that you can paste us so we can see whats happening on the console.... with that i guess we should be able to know whats the issue.

    I just read the release notes and i found something interesting

    Im not an native english speaker and i don tknow if im undersanding correctly

    Before upgrading to any version of ArubaOS 6.2.x.x, take note of these known upgrade caveats.
l When upgrading a controller from ArubaOS 3.4.4.3, or ArubaOS 5.0.3.3, or ArubaOS 6.0.1.3 to ArubaOS 6.2.1.6,
perform a two-step upgrade as mentioned below.
Customers running ArubaOS 3.x:
n ArubaOS 3.4.4.3 and above > ArubaOS 6.2.1.5 and above > ArubaOS 6.2.1.6 and above
Customers running ArubaOS 5.x:
n ArubaOS 5.0.3.3 and above > ArubaOS 6.2.1.5 and above > ArubaOS 6.2.1.6 and above
Customers running ArubaOS 6.0.x:
n ArubaOS 6.0.1.3 and above > ArubaOS 6.2.1.5 and above > ArubaOS 6.2.1.6 and above

     As i understand you have to upgrade it to 6.2.15 first and then upgrade to 6.2.1.6

    Good catch. I actually was wanting to update to 6.3.1.3 and they showed the the upgrade path as ArubaOS 5.0.3.3 and above > ArubaOS 6.2.1.5 and above > ArubaOS 6.3.1.3 and above.The ArubaOS 6.2.1.5 and above made it sound like I should just jump straight to the newest version of 6.2.1.*.

    I'll try upgrading to 6.2.1.5 and report back how things go.
