Yes it is possible , just keep in mind that is not recommended to use your 7010 as master controller.
Thank you

Re: Migration - controller 620 to controller 7010

These controllers are meant to be used at branch offices, so these have limited capabilies compare to a 7200 controller which are built to be Master.

You can either have these setup as Local controller or be a single Master controller but not master to other local controller

Re: Migration - controller 620 to controller 7010

Hi,

thanks for your answer.

For the migration:

can i simply export the configuration by 620 to 7010?

Or i have to modify some parameters such as network interface's name?

there is some guide?

thanks in advance

Bset regards

[ Edited ]

Hello,

How I usually do this: (prepartion in LAB!)

take flash back-up from old controller

restore your flash on the new controller

IMPORTANT: add your licenses to your new controller after restoring the flash-backup, since licenses are in the flash-backup, and you will need to migrate/transfer your licenses to your new controller.

reload new controller

write memory only after the reload.

Now your configuration is identically as your old controller (also the IP so don't let the 2 controllers be active in the network at the same time! )

EDIT(yes you need to configure your interfaces afterwards)

Other option, which my colleague usually does: make new controller a local controller connected to the 620 (but SW should be the same on the 2 controllers! )

let all APs redirect to the new local controller (new IP, so also change in DNS etc,... that's why I do it like it is described first ) , make the new local controller master, and remove the old master

Kind regards,

Re: Migration - controller 620 to controller 7010

Hi Friend,

While you are planning to migrate an old controller to a new model you have consider the following points,

1. WLAN configurations

2. L2 and L3 configurations

3. Local database

4. License

As a good and successful practice,

1. take the flash backup from the old controller, use the command " backup flash"

this take care of first 3 requirements.

2. boot the new controller and factory rest the controller, use the command " write erase all"

3. After rebooting the controller, copy the backup file in to the flash

note the file name must be "flashbackup.tar.gz"

4. restore the flash backup, use the command " restore flash "

5. Now configure the L2 and L3 interfaces accordingly ( mostly you have to work on mapping interface to the respective VLANs)

6. transfer the license.

7. reboot the controller.

for any reason if the flash is not restored, please repeat the steps 1,3 and 4

Hope got some more clarity,

Please feel free for any further query on this.

Cheers,
Venu Puduchery,

Re: Migration - controller 620 to controller 7010

Hi,
i have followed your suggestion and all works fine. =)
The only problem was due to the protocol used to transfer the flashbackup.tar.gz file.
with the TFTP the file was corrupted, i have solved with FTP.
I think can be a point to remember.  =)

thanks for all.

Kind regards
Andrea
