    Hello Dears,

When ordering a Mobility Controller 7240, do we still have to order a separate licenses to support the maximum 2048 AP's?

What is the 2048 was reached? Can we stack another MC 7240 to the existing one, so that to increase the overall capacity?

    Thanks.

Yes, you need to order licenses. They do not come with the controller. When
you reach capacity of a controller, you need add controllers.

When adding the controller, can we "Stack" it to the existing one?

Stacking here means you'll handle both as a single entity.

    Thanks.

No, controllers do not stack. They can share licenses however.

    Thanks, I have 2 queries:

    1) How can they share licenses? Does this mean if we bought 1000 AP Licenses, and we have 2 Controllers, we'll be able to integrate 1000 AP's on each controller (So 2000 AP's in total)?

    2) In our case, MC 7240 will:

    > Connect to an external AAA Server, web-portal & AirWave Server
    > And we'll need to limit number of Clients per AP

Does this mean we'll need only "AP Capacity" & "PEFNG" Licenses?

And no need for "PEFV", "RFprotect", "sSec" licenses, right?

    Thanks.

The licenses (AP, PEF, RFP) are shared across all controllers in the centralized licensing pool and checked out when needed. If controller 1 has 1,000 licenses and only 500 APs, controller 2 can use the other 500 licenses.

PEFV is for the VIA VPN client

RFProtect is for WIDS and spectrum analysis

xSec is a specialized security license.

Whether you need those depends on your environment. Have you reached out to your Aruba Partner?

Thanks cappalli, just need to confirm if Licensing pool is possible in an All-Master Controller scenario?

Does this need any external server/HW? Or just both Controllers need to be in the same Broadcast Domain?

    Yes, it's possible.

No, you don't need an external server.

Everything is covered in the user guide. See chapter 3.

Also to add for archival purposes, xSec is now deprecated on all 7000 controllers (both 7000 and 7200). xSec is only on the M3/3x00/6x0.

You need AP licenses to be able to attached the Aps to the controller and PEF licenses in order to utilize the controller internal stateful firewall

If you need to support additional Aps then you can setup another controller as a Local controller .
