Hello!  I'm new to the Aruba wireless community and was hoping I could enlist some expertise as I'm just now starting to learn Aruba Wireless.  I have a 7005 controller that was given to me for lab purposes and for the life of me I can't get this thing online.

I have experience with Juniper wireless so I'm not completely lost, but with any new hardware comes new challenges.

I have the controller powered up via a PoE switch to the controllers only PoE port, ge-0/0/0.  I have consoled into the controller and gone through the initial setup of assigning an ip address to the vlan 1 interface then rebooting, and tried configuring my switch port as both an access port and a trunk with a native-vlan id but the controller is not reachable either way.  I've set the correct default gateway on the controller but pings fail outbound from the controller and inbound to it from my network.  My switch also cannot see the mac-address of the controller.  I have several other devices plugged into this switch which are working fine in their respective vlans but this controller will not cooperate.  I've even manually configured the ge-0/0/0 port as a trunk itself and allowed the neccessary vlans on it and it didn't seem to change anything.

Is there some other basic configuration I need to do to get this thing online?  Do i need to reformat this device and do a fresh install?

    Hi,

Please ensute the following config is in place.

    1. VLAN 1 interface ip is in the same subnet as your uplink device

    2. If the uplink port is trunk ensure the requred vlans are allowed.

    3. default gaveway is properly configured.

    4. disable STP globally and on the uplink port

    for your referance :

(Aruba7005) (config) #show ip interface brief

Interface IP Address / IP Netmask Admin Protocol
    vlan 1 172.16.0.3 / 255.255.255.0 up up
loopback unassigned / unassigned up up

    (Aruba7005) (config) #show spanning-tree
    Spanning-Tree is disabled

    (Aruba7005) (config) #show ip route

    Codes: C - connected, O - OSPF, R - RIP, S - static
    M - mgmt, U - route usable, * - candidate default, V - RAPNG VPN

Gateway of last resort is Imported from DHCP to network 0.0.0.0 at cost 10
Gateway of last resort is Imported from CELL to network 0.0.0.0 at cost 10
Gateway of last resort is Imported from PPPOE to network 0.0.0.0 at cost 10
Gateway of last resort is 172.16.0.254 to network 0.0.0.0 at cost 1
    S* 0.0.0.0/0 [1/0] via 172.16.0.254*
    C 172.16.0.0/24 is directly connected, VLAN1

    (Aruba7005) (config) #ping 172.16.0.254
    Press 'q' to abort.
Sending 5, 92-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.0.254, timeout is 2 seconds:
    !!!!!
    Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 0.375/0.496/0.759 ms

    (Aruba7005) (config) #

In the above output , 172.16.0.254 is my GW and i'm able to ping my GW as well as an other device.

Hope your issue will be resolved :)

Please feel free to comeback if the issue is not resolved.

    Cheers,

    Venu Puduchery

Okay, it was spanning-tree.  I disabled by just issuing "no spanning-tree" and now I am able to ping the device and manage it.  If I have any further issues I will let you know, thank you so much.
