RAP and external DHCP server

    Dear all,

I'm currently deploying AP 105 into RAP mode with a 3600.

All the configuration seems to be OK as when I'm using local DHCP server, everything is working fine.

Then, I need to set up an external DHCP server without flushing

1 - I've changed the forward mode to "bridge" instead of "tunnel"

2 - Configure helper address to DHCP server (which is not mandatory as WLAN is separate VLAN)

3 - Set up the DHCP server and configure option 43 with the controller IP address

When I reboot the AP, I can see into my DHCP server that the AP gets an IP address in the good range but the IPSec tunnel is not coming up.

When I roll-back everything is working fine.

What did I make wrong? Or did I forget something?

    Regards,

    Thomas

Are you setting up an external DHCP server for the access point, or the clients that connect to that access point?

Due to IP plan restriction, the DHCP server is for AP and Clients.

is the RAP on the public internet?

What server is providing DHCP when it is working, and what server do you want it to use?

No, the RAP is on internal network only :)

When it's working, it's the controller DHCP. I'd like to use W2003 then a W2008R2 to provide DHCP.

Are you adding a helper-address to a layer-3 interface to forward the DHCP to an external server?

Yes, I do. I configure helper-address on our core switch and on the controller.

Do you need any configuration lines?

Are you using DHCP option 43 for the access point to find the controller?  Can you plug the console cable into the AP105 and capture the output when it is booting?

Can you provision the AP105 to have a static ip address pointing to the controller instead of relying on discovery?

Yes, I do. I have filled the ANSII column.

Concerning access to AP, I have no access to AP as they are all fixed on the ceiling.

I've configured host IP directly during the provisionning.

In the ArubaOS 6.x user guide Appendix A, there is a section "DHCP with Vendor-Specific Options".

Please review that to see if you are configuring it correctly.

I have followed Aruba 6.1 documentation Appendix A for the option 43 configuration.

I think it's correctly fill. Please see picture in attachement

Did you put "ArubaAP" in option 60 as text?

It is mandatory.  I am attaching another document that shows how to configure option 60 on Microsoft's DHCP.
