    Posted Mar 04, 2014 05:53 AM

    Hello,

Im investigating a problem at a customer site with aprox 70  Ap225's  connected to a 7200 controller.

    Running 6.3.1.1 firmware.

We experience radar interference from somewhere and I am trying to figure out from where OR if the AP's are fighting eachother in the setup here.

    Messages i see:

    For instance:

    ... sapd|  AM 9c:1c:12:93:9a:d0: Radar detected on interface wifi0, channel 112, typeid 4"

    ... sapd|  AM 9c:1c:12:93:9a:d0: Radar detected on interface wifi0, channel 112, typeid 7"

Anyone who can explain me what the TypeID's mean?

The typeID does not mean anything useful outside of engineering:

    - What regulatory domain is this?

    Reg domain is set to

    NL - Netherlands

    Active channels:

    802.11g channel     1,6,11

    802.11a channel      36,44,52,60,100,108,116,124,132,140

    802.11g 40MHz channel pair   1-5,   7-11

    802.11a 40MHz    and 80MHZ channel pair      all

Are you using 20mhz, 40 mhz or 80 mhz channels?

The channel width is set to 20mhz

support for 80mhz is enabled and Honor 40 MHz intolerance also..

thnx for the quick answers btw! :-)

Do you have a short sample of the output of "show ap active"?

The radar detect log messages i see on most of the ap's in the building.

The ap's used are the oem ap225 versions from Alcatel who only replaced the Aruba logo and text on the outside of the AP... I hope you guys still answer to this now :smileyindifferent:

Please Uncheck "80 mhz channels" and see if you still have problems with radar detection.

    Hello,

I unchecked all the 80mhz channels pairs under the reg domain. This did not work so i enabled them again.

After that i disabled the 80mhz usage under the High-Throughput SSID settings.

At first this also did not have any effect, so i also disabled 80mhz support in the ARM settings for the a and g radio.

That seemed to do the trick!

Where i first got the messages every minute, now i dont see any radar detect messages anymore at all.

Also it looks like instantly the wifi network has gotten a lot more stable.

    Thank you for the tips!

Since there is no equipment here yet that uses the 80mhz, i can leave it disabled for now.

Now for future references, is it possible the AP's were detecting each other as radar? And if I enable 80mhz again in the future, are here any other channels/settings I should disable for it to work normally?

Thankyou for your help so far.

The last way you did it is the right way.

80 MHz wide channels use 4 20-MHz channels to operate. If we sense radar on any of those channels, we cannot use any of the channels in the bundle. It is entirely possible that the radar detection is a false positive, but moving to 40 MHz channels means that fewer channels are taken out of service as a result
