Unable to detect Instant SSID

Hi,

I received 3 units of Model APIN0225 and 1 unit of AP105 from my HQ since they are not utilizing them.

I have been trying to reset the devices but failed to do so.

I watched the steps done in a youtube video and i should be able to detect instant ssid after i perform reset.

The steps i do it:

1. Take out PPOE cable.

2. Press reset button.Hold.

3. Slot back the PPOE cable.

4. Wait led blinking rapidly

5. After LED blink as normal, i released the reset button.

Are there anything else i need to do...

Re: Unable to detect Instant SSID

Are you providing DHCP to that AP?

Does it have access to the internet?

Re: Unable to detect Instant SSID

Thank you for fast respond.

Do not have internet access and not connected to any network too.

I just powered it up via PPOE cable.

Does it require to be connected to a network for initial setting?

With DHCP, yes.

Re: Unable to detect Instant SSID

Please confirm that you have the Instant AP model (IAP), not the campus AP model (AP).

On the back, there should be a separate sticker that either shows:

- for the 105: AP-105, which means the AP requires a controller for operation, or IAP-105, which means it can run either as Instant AP, without a controller or can be converted to an campus AP with central controller.

- for the 225: AP-225 for the controller AP or IAP-225-RW, IAP-225-US, IAP-225-IL for the Instant version.

The campus AP models (AP) require a controller to operate The Instant models (IAP) can work either with, or without a controller.

Campus APs cannot be converted to Instant AP, by purpose (regulatory and theft control).

If you confirmed that it is an Instant model, indeed you need DHCP, or use the console to set a static IP for the AP.

Re: Unable to detect Instant SSID

The 105 unit sticker is - IAP 105

The 225 unita sticker is - IAP-255-RW

Both sticker got a bar code below it as well.

It is safe to say that i do not need controller for this units?

What is my DHCP server is unable to provide this device an IP address?

What is the address i should put in putty if i want to use console to set the IP address manually.

Thanks.

Re: Unable to detect Instant SSID

These APs are indeed Instant APs; and you should be able to operate them without a controller.

I would make sure that you have a working DHCP server, as that makes your life much easier in the long run; at least start with a DHCP server on the subnet where you attach the IAPs. If you can connect to the WebUI, it is much easier to assign static IP addresses as well.

There are some 'cautions' for mixed IAP environments (mixing 105 and 225 in the same cluster), as you need to make sure they are on the same firmware level before joining them to the same cluster. What may work is first start with only the IAP-105 or only the AP-225s, upgrade them to the latest available firmware; then do the same for the other AP, and only then join them.

Re: Unable to detect Instant SSID

In my current network have 4 unit of IAP105 that operate.

If....one of 4 unit is a controller, does it will prevent the fifth IAP105 to operate without additional setting in the controller.

The other 4 units is stash in the ceiling.

Kinda very trouble to reach them.

The documentation to access via webaccess none existent.

I just know some of their IP but not the username and password.

I manage to get the WEP key from computer that already connected to the wifi before.

Re: Unable to detect Instant SSID

it is usually smarter to start new thread for a new question othmanyz.

it is possible that the current cluster doesnt allow new APs to auto join. you will need to have a access at the cluster at some time so  might be best to start  looking at that password. perhaps it is still the default?
