Upgrade from AMP 7.3.5 to 7.7.6 on a separate physical server

Hi all,

We can running AMP 7.3.5 on a physical production server, I know it is old !

I have installed AMP7.7.6 on a new physical server  with plenty of memory and disk space.

I try to retain all the settings. Would a backup of 7.3.5 and restore to 7.7.6 work or does this require step upgrades?

Does this means I have to build the new server on 7.4.x, restore the backup then upgrade to 7.5.x ,then 7.6..x,  then 7.7.x ?

Has anyone done a restore to 7.7.6 ?

Thanks for the help.

Kai.

You cannot restore a backup of 7.3.5 to 7.7.6. What you would need to do is upgrade incrementaly.

This KB Article is a good first step to read and covers most everything you need to do.

https://arubanetworkskb.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/FAQ/Multi-step-incremental-upgrade-via-interim-version

Your incremental upgrade would go as follows: (safest and longest way)

7.3.x >> 7.4.x >> 7.5.x >> 7.6.x >> 7.7.6

Best thing to do would be first step is to backup your 7.3.5 instance.

Then upgrade it to last version of 7.4.x

Take another backup

Upgrade it to the last version of 7.5.x

Take another backup

Upgrade it to the last version of 7.6.x

Take another backup

Perform an ISO install of the same 7.6.x version so you can be on the latest Centos 6.2 version.

Restore backup

Upgrade to 7.7.6

Take a backup

Restore it on your new server

There are probably other ways to accomplish this task and probably much faster but this is the safest possible way to do it in my opinion and would be the way I would accomplish this.

Re: Upgrade from AMP 7.3.5 to 7.7.6 on a separate physical server

Funny I just had an email about the same thing recently.

First thing you need to check before starting any upgrade is the OS and 32/64bit.

  [root@amp mercury]# uname -i

  x86_64

  [root@amp mercury]# crr

  CentOS release 6.2 (Final)

Most likely, AMP 7.3.5 is 32-bit with Cent5.

If this is the case, then your path will look more like:

1) Update to 64-bit

Take a 7.3 backup

Fresh install 7.3.5 64-bit

Restore 7.3 backup

2) Upgrade to 7.5 (you're able to skip 1 release during an upgrade, so from 7.3, you can go to 7.4 or 7.5)

3) Update OS to Cent6

Take 7.5 backup

Fresh install 7.5 Cent6

Restore 7.5 backup

4) Upgrade to 7.7

Additionally, make sure that the new server is up to spec for the current release.  The doc is on support.arubanetworks.com under documentation for the current AirWave release.
