The 210 and 220 series are both 802.11ac 3x3:3 APs.  The main difference between them is that the 220 series has a 2nd Ethernet and added memory/processor resources.

Anyway,

I was in the middle of creating a new post including all the specifications, and they seem virtually identical in terms of QAM, etc.  I checked the MAT comparison chart before ever making the post.  It is my "go to" source for AP and Controller comparisons.  The gain on the 225 is slightly lower, so perhaps it could be used in a higher density environment.  The 225 advertises 802.11g/n 600 Mbps max rate, while the 215 advertises 802.11g/n 450 Mbps max rate.  I cannot see why the 225 has a higher advertised through-put in 802.11n.  The 225 does have a 2nd ethernet interface for 802.11ac speeds above 1 Gbps, but honestly I never consider those speeds as realistic unless in a residential application due to not being able to utilize 80 Mhz channels, and almost no clients ever fund dual cable feeds per access points due to capital limitations.

I found that most people consider using the second eth port on the AP225 for redundancy rather that extra speed. If the Switch connected to eth0 goes down you should be able to failover to eth1. This would require a reboot of the AP but at least it would come back quick.

 

I think that the speed difference on 802.11n is a typo

I also see that the 225 says it supports 100 (i assume mbps) wired ipsec throughput while the 215 only supports 20.

 

Another consideration is that the 225 supports ArubaOS 6.3, which 215 is 6.4 minumum. If you are still running older code and cannot upgrade the 225 is a better choice.

the AP225 has a more powerful CPU, which allows it to forward as much traffic as possible in high density situations.  The 215, is just fine for medium density.  If it will be a high density environment, the AP225, even though it shares the same radio characteristics will perform better due to the higher CPU.

What's considered medium or high density? I'm trying to determine why a client would need to go with a 225 based deployment over a 215 based deployment. Something tells me that there's a capacity limit with the 215s which would cause a client to need to go to the 225s. The same goes for 205s. When would the client need to go from the 205 to the 215? I'm thinking in terms of number of users per floor at a particular user to device ratio. Where's the breakdown? What's the Aruba Best Practice for correctly sizing this?
