When AP and DNS are in different networks.

    Hi ,

     

    It may be silly qustion for you but can anyone please clarify my doubt.

     

    My Access point and DNS servers are in different networks.

     

    Have configured the LMS hostname on AP (setenv master "y.y.com")  but as mentioned above  

    AP and DNS are in different network.

     

    As per my understanding , AP is Layer2 device then how it will do routing here to reach DNS.

     

    [Am also understnading in this way , AP forwards the packets with L2 information , here L3 does not come into picture ].

    The client can reach a DNS server or lms ip address just like any client will reach an ip address or DNS sever that is not on its own subnet.

     

    The access point of course needs a valid ip address, subnet mask and default gateway to be able to reach ip addresses that are not on its own subnet.

    and of course, it needs to know what the DNS server address is.  Either returned in the DHCP or set statically.
