    Hey guys,

Very shortly I will be setting up an intranet on a large cruise ship in a short amount of time. Users will connect to this intranet with their iPhones and will only be able to use a single app (which routes to a server located onboard). This app at maximum usage will likely use 1-2mbps per person.

We are expecting a maximum of 200 concurrent users in an atrium area around 100x100x50ft  but there will be a stage with lots of people everywhere). We would also like to provide coverage for as much of floors 5, 6, and 7 as possible. Our server will be on the 5th floor.

Do you guys have any recommendations for how to structure a network here, and which access points, antennas, etc. to use?

    Cheers,

    Michael Tom

Are you working with an Aruba partner? It can be difficult to answer these questions via forum. Working with a partner engineer is your safest bet.

Yes, but he hasn't been very responsive, and this is very time sensitive. Thanks for any help!

Is this temporary or permanent? Also hard to know without knowing the shape of the area.

200 users at 2Mbps is 400mbps, so depending on the phone type and if they are mostly 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz, I would look at 3-4 AP-277s. Those APs are good for outdoor installs or installs where corrosion will be an issue. That would give you 100Mbps per AP or 50Mpbs per radio, with 50 users per AP. You can likely get away with 3, but again without the ma/floorplan and where the users are sitting, it's really hard to know.

We're planning to cover, at most, floors 5, 6, and 7, which means that all installations will be indoors. These installations will be the definition of temporary for a 4 day festival cruise. We will have a server on floor 5, and are planning to use ethernet and wireless bridges to connect all networks to the central server. All users will have iPhones (app is iOS only now).

Here's a virtual tour as well, the "Atrium" is likely to be the center of our operation. Thanks so much for the help!

    Cheers,

The Pantheon Theater and the APs and server will be on Deck 5, and the APs directing RF from the stage area to the users?? Or somewhere else? All APs will be wired to the switch/controller?

Need to know where AP placement availability is, what/where the clients are, etc? Chances are you will need external antennas if you plan on using indoor antennas. ANT-35A and ANT-38 are going to be your likely candidates.
