Hi... I keep finding things out about VRF in bits and pieces... about important things--

    like

current gridsize relative to suggested gridsize

the "fu" of drawing in wall material type... and whether you should or not (seems like there's no consensus with Aruba support)

importing file tricks-- how to get a clean, sharp blueprint imported

Just wondering why there isn't a separate board/forum for gathering all those tips/tricks together.

We usually rotate our floorplans so north is up, pull each flloor into gimp along with a google satellite view for the roof, scale/rotate/line them up layer by layer to the google map, then crop all to the same size.  Then after import and measuring, to place the origin put a little sticker on the screen and line it up to that.  That way your floor-to-floor RF bleed is dead on.

Also don't spend a huge amount of time zooming in to make wall corners meet -- just let them overlap a bit.  The agorithm won't care about an imaginary 6" flange.

"put a little sticker on the screen and line it up to that"

    Haha, that's awesome man. Resourceful.

Aruba--- maybe that's an indicator that your software is lacking, when people are putting stickers on the screen.

It's a free tool. If you need something more robust, consider Ekahau.....

Can Ekahau be used in lieu of VRF?

Or is it something one uses to optimize floorplans before importing into VRF?

The Ekahau planner tool can be used for predictive analysis instead of
VisualRF if it's not meeting your needs.

The ability to create custom wall types in the standalone would be handy.  I put a feature request in for that a while ago.

The devil is really in the detail.  It is really worth taking the time to put the walls in and setting the correct ap type and power levels.  It makes the planning survey much more accurate and professional.  Typicall I would wrap the outside walls in concrete.
