Hi,

we have controller 620 , now I want to copy the configuration to controller 7005, is it possible?

You can do that, but the 7005 will not have any connection to the outside world, because the interface commands will be reset.  You would need to have a console cable ready when the 7005 is booting up so that you can configure the interface ports correctly using the commandline.

While you are planning to migrate an old controller to a new model you have consider the following points,

1. WLAN configurations

2. L2 and L3 configurations

3. Local database

4. License

As a good and successful practice,

1. take the flash backup from the old controller, use the command " backup flash"

this take care of first 3 requirements.

2. boot the new controller and factory rest the controller, use the command " write erase all"

3. After rebooting the controller, copy the backup file in to the flash

note the file name must be "flashbackup.tar.gz"

4. restore the flash backup, use the command " restore flash "

5. Now configure the L2 and L3 interfaces accordingly ( mostly you have to work on mapping interface to the respective VLANs)

6. transfer the license.

7. reboot the controller.

for any reason if the flash is not restored, please repeat the steps 1,3 and 4

I'm trying to preform the same migration, but when I try to copy the backup from the old controller off of a usb disk using the command "#copy usb: flashbackup.tar.gz flash: flashbackup.tar.gz" I recieve an error that says "Command is not supported in this platform"

I ended up getting this to work using an FTP server, but after rebooting the controller it got stuck in a reboot loop.

After contacting Aruba support, it looks like the backup corrupted my flash partition. We are currently trying to get the controller to let us re-apply the OS image to the flash 0:0 partition, but after 3 hours we are still not having any luck.

I'll keep you posted on the final resolution.
