    Good afternoon,

We are building out one of our properties with two large buildings.  We are looking to use an Aruba 3400 controller in building 1. There are three 48-port POE switches in building1 & three in building 2.  the buildings are 900 feet apart with a line of site.

Im not too knowledgable with meshing the network so all six switches are off the one contoller. What would be the recommended antenna configuration for this mesh assuming Im using AP175s?

    Thanks!

    #3400

If it just for a point to point communication between both building

Like if it was a cable between both building you could use mst200

Here is more info about it

I just saw that you said that we should assume that you are using a AP 175P?

Why is that? you already bough it? or you assuming thats the best option you got?

    Cheers

    Carlos,

No,  I didnt buy the 175s,  just more familier with it.  Please let me know what our other options are.

    Thanks!!

    Hello

I already said mst200 and put info on previews message

Just take in mind this will just buld the link between 2 buildings... it wont serve clients... but its cheaper than the ap 175 + antenas.

    Cheers

    Carlos,

We are looking at installing around six 48 port Cisco POE switches with many AP105s on both sides of this mesh.  Do you feel this router will have enough horsepower?

    oops clicked accidentally solution accepted...

    mmmm

ill see how to remove it...

Anywaywas... the link speed its 300Mbs

If you need more speed i ll advise you that you can use AP 274

Its the new outdoor solution of aruba

    Take a look of it

Now im mentioning this.. i got a webinar of this AP for partners... as its new... ill ask more about it and ill come back to you.. its on 30 mins though

Ill ask them specifically for your enviroment

You plan putting 48 APs 105 on the other building? and instead of using a fiber link you will use a on the air link meshing right?

Just to put them the scenario to see what they tell me.

But i bealive this would be the best.option if you are looking for a fast speed link in the air.

    Cheers

We already purchased the plain 3200, not the 3200 MX.  I guess that leaves up with the mesh router or the Ap175, correct?

Yes, I believe we bought the memory upgrade already.  However, we did not buy the 3200 MX

IF you already bough the memory upgrade then its all cool you just need to upgrade your controller to the correct firmware, to support the AP 274/275.

You have to take in mind the BW you will be using on the other building....

Remenber that your uplink between both building will be just 300Mbps and if you dont bealive that uplink will be enough then you should be looking for the  274/275, for 1 Gbps of speed.   The only one that knows if the 300Mbps is enough its you as you are the one that knows the BW that you will be using in the other building....

    Cheers

    Carlos,

I stand corrected.  My engineer just told me we did buy MX. With 1 Gig.  Sorry

    Carlos,

If the MST200 has its own OS, how is this typically managed?  Currently, we manage or will be managing 150,  3200, & 3400 controllers from Corporate.  can this somehow present itself as two Site APs in Airwave?

If we choose the 274/275, how is this powered and cabled?  A couple guys here heard it requires AC, and two cables running to it.

    Thanks.

I balive is managed by web

The tihing is that i actually have not installed one myselft... but should be installing 4 of them soon... and can tell you more details about it...

the 274/275 can be powered by POE

You can see it by yourself on the notes

    http://www.arubanetworks.com/products/access-points/270-series/

For more information abut the MST200 maybe you can ask your reseller, maybe they already installed them and can give you more information...

One lsat thing about your last question as someone asked on the webinar if it can be powered by poe and ac at the same time...

They replied that you can but it will take the POE  as preferred for the energy as its build taht way....

    Cheers

    Calos,

After talking with our engineers, they dont want the MST200.  They do want me to look at the AP270 series.  I downloaded the deployment manauel your directed me to.  Ill look this over.  Is there a youtube link such as the one you directed me to for the mst200?  Is the AP274/5 available today?

    Thanks

In the AP275, In a litle confused by the definition of the Omin directional 3x3:3.  There are 6 built in omnis.  I assume three are for the 2.4 and three are 5 ghz.  are all 6 three pole, such as 2H and 1V?

Sorry, I don tthink i can asnwer so specific questions about the engineering of the AP...

You can also ask them questions regarding this antena on the link i provided you.  Specialist of that product will asnwer you in there...

EJohnson provided the answer - http://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Unified-Wired-Wireless-Access/Built-in-antennas-in-an-AP275/td-p/145069

3 omnis antenna are 2.4 GHz (2 are V polarized and 1 is H polarized)

3 omnis antenna are 5 GHz (2 are H polarized and 1 is V polarized)

    Carlos,

What is the advantage of using the outdoor router over using the AP175?  Is it better throughput?  Can I continue using the 3200 controller?

    Thanks!

  • 22.  RE: meshing between two buildings

    Posted Mar 03, 2014 11:16 AM

    Just to clarify,

I only have a total of around 20 AP105s on both sides of the mesh.  Other ports (not many) will be for security cameras.

    Posted Mar 03, 2014 11:22 AM

yes but you can buy a memory upgrade so its all good...

If you buy the memory upgrade you will be able to upgrade in firmware your 3200 to 6.2.x 6.3.x and so on.

For now without the memory upgarde you just can go to 6.1.x...

I advice you to buy that memory upgrade as the development for 6.1.x alredy  died.... and the support will be until this year on may...

    http://www.arubanetworks.com/support-services/end-of-life-products/

So try putting that memory upgrade in the budget!

    Cheers

    Posted Mar 03, 2014 11:16 AM

Well its cheaper as its specific for that scenario!

MST200 does not need any controller... it has their own OS....

Now the other option i just posted you will be needing the 3200MX

    Now take in mind 3200MX

if you got a 3200 alone then you will need a mem upgrade package to upgrade it to the lastest firmware tnat is needed to support the ap 274/275

If you dontwant to buy the mem upgrade then you can use the AP 274/275 in instant mode(but it still not out the instant mode)

It will be out in a few months i bealive.(The instnat mode) The controller mode is already out

    Cheers
