Though below is an old thread, I am quite sure it is still valid:

Thank you for the timely response.

Why is FIPS in the product name if it does not support FIPS?

In the below PDF there are eight AP with FIPS in their name.

    https://www.arubanetworks.com/assets/ds/DS_AP320Series.pdf

On the box for our AP is the following which contains FIPS in the name:

     "ARUBA IAP-325 FIPS/TAA Instant AP"

Why is FIPS in the product name if it does not support FIPS?

FIPS stands for the Federal Information Processing Standardisation and FIPS 140-2 is a collection of standards that are generically associated with hardware and software cryptography. In most cases, people can refer to this as the method of encrypting data.

In some scenarios, an application may use non-approved algorithms or processes while the application operates in a FIPS-compliant mode. For example, the use of non-approved algorithms may be allowed in the following scenarios: Some internal processes stay within the computer. Some external data is to be additionally encrypted by a FIPS-compliant implementation.

    Thanks for the response,

I have updated my above post to say:

Why is FIPS in the product name if it does not support FIPS?

Firstly, the F1 part number for the IAP-325 *DOES* indeed support FIPS, the FIPS software is just not approved yet (we/Aruba do not control the FIPS process). Because of this, we don't restrict the sale of the APs until the FIPS software is aproved. Additionally, the F1 part number includes both FIPS support *AND* TAA, and many customers may just need TAA compliance and don't need FIPS.

We expect to have FIPS validated software released at the end of this CY for the 300 series APs.

Is it possible to obtain an beta version of this SW?  This is needed for lab work.
